# Twilio

APIs for SMS, RCS, voice and email, plus phone number lookup and identity verification.

Twilio provides APIs to send SMS, MMS and WhatsApp messages, place voice
calls, look up phone numbers and verify users with one-time codes. The
`twilio` CLI reaches every Twilio REST API through `twilio api:...` commands.
It reads credentials from `TWILIO_ACCOUNT_SID`, `TWILIO_API_KEY` (an API key
SID) and `TWILIO_API_SECRET`, or from a profile that `twilio login` saves.
Twilio also documents apt, Scoop, Docker and npm installs of the CLI.

The REST APIs behind those commands live on several hosts, such as
`https://api.twilio.com` for messages and calls, `https://verify.twilio.com`
and `https://lookups.twilio.com`, and take HTTP Basic auth with an API key SID
as the username and its secret as the password; each tool names its REST call.
Twilio's hosted MCP server at `https://mcp.twilio.com/docs` searches Twilio's
API specs and docs but does not make calls.

## Tools

- tool:twilio/check-verification-code — Check a verification code: Checks the code a user entered against their pending verification and returns its status, approved when the code is right.
- tool:twilio/look-up-phone-number — Look up a phone number: Validates a phone number and returns it in E.164 and national formats, plus line type, caller name or other data you request.
- tool:twilio/make-call — Make a phone call: Places an outbound call from a Twilio number to a phone number, SIP address or client and runs the TwiML you give it when the call connects.
- tool:twilio/send-message — Send a message: Sends an SMS, MMS or WhatsApp message from a Twilio sender to one recipient and returns the new Message resource.
- tool:twilio/send-verification-code — Send a verification code: Starts verifying a phone number or email address by sending a one-time code over SMS, WhatsApp, a voice call or email.
