# Slack

Team messaging in channels and direct messages.

Slack is team messaging: channels, direct messages, files and workflows.

The MCP server acts as the signed-in user, and a workspace admin must approve MCP access first. The Web API and the CLI's `slack api` command call the same methods with a bot token (`xoxb-`) from an app installed in the workspace; `slack api` reads it from `SLACK_BOT_TOKEN`.

## Tools

- tool:slack/find-user-by-email — Find a user by email: Returns the workspace member registered with an email address, so a message can mention or reach them.
- tool:slack/post-message — Post a message: Posts a message to a channel, DM or thread and returns the channel ID and the message timestamp.
- tool:slack/schedule-message — Schedule a message: Schedules a message to post to a channel at a future Unix time and returns its scheduled message ID.
- tool:slack/search-messages — Search messages: Searches messages and files in public channels, narrowed by channel, person and date.
